Over 90% Indians live with air quality below WHO standards

Around 93% of Indians live in areas where air pollution levels are higher than the WHO standards, suggests a global report.

The report stated that due to this, the life expectancy in India has been reduced by nearly 1.5 years. According to the study, with an average annual population-weighted PM2.5 of 83 µg/cubic meter in 2019, PM 2.5 could be accountable for about 9,79,700 deaths in India.

Moreover, it stated that almost the entire world population lived in areas where with PM2.5 levels exceeding the WHO standards (average annual PM2.5 exposure level of 5 µg/cubic meter). Around 40% of the world′s population lives in areas with ozone levels higher than the least stringent WHO interim target in 2019… (ET Healthworld – IANS, March 5, 2022)
